I’ve always been drawn to the movies of thriller movies of the 30s, 40s and 50s that are widely referred to as Film Noir.
Ever since visiting Gregory Crewdson’s exceptional Cathedral of Pines exhibition in London, I was inspired to think about photography as movie stills.
Work and then lockdowns meant that this has taken much longer, but the curiosity to explore the potential of combining the short story format of comics with the film noir style, as a photography project remained strong.
The result was a 300 word script, deliberately written to work within the studio space I was renting in North London, and with a minimal number of characters, so as not to get too confusing.
The result was 20 shots that made best use of the natural light, with the addition of one Dedo Ledzilla and two mid-sized LEDs.
